Gordon Winslow - In Secret!

by Gordon Winslow
(Jackson)

I want you to read Matt. 6:4-6.

This is a passage of scripture that holds a very powerful key to our relationship with God. There are two words I want to point out to you today. One is "Secret" and the second is "Closet".

The word "Secret" means concealed or private. The word "Closet" means storage chamber.

If you have ever wondered how to improve your relationship with God and how to have more answers to your prayers, here it is. You have got to find a place in your life and in your home, where you can be private and concealed. A place like the storage chamber. The storage chamber was the best place in the house to be alone. It's purpose was not like the living room, dining room, etc. It wasn't a place everyone wanted to be in or to go hangout. It truly was a private place. This is where God wanted them to go and pray. Why?

God wants one thing from you. YOUR ATTENTION! He had Adam and Eve's attention, and as soon as he lost it, sin moved in. It wasn't just that they disobeyed God, but that they didn't keep their attention on God. If we can get alone and be in SECRET and in our CLOSET, than God can truly have our attention. That is where power comes from. When God has our attention, we have his attention.

Why do you think libraries are so quiet? Ever try and soak in what you're doing or reading with chaos around you? When you are not distracted and you can focus on God, that is when you can truly soak up all of Him.
